A delegation from Goencho Ekvott on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to the deputy collector demanding to scrap the entire land acquisition process for the proposed special railway project of “Londa Vasco Road Over Bridge in lieu of Level Crossing Nos. 25 Project” at Cansaulim, after alleging it is arbitrary in nature.
"Authorities are all out to grab our ancestral land only to satisfy the South Western Railway which intends to transport coal via our village to a private steel plant in Bellary,” stated a press note issued by Goencho Ekvott Convenor Creson Antao.
“The land acquisition for overbridge in lieu of Level Crossing Nos. 25 Project in Cansaulim should have been under the ‘The Goa Compensation to the Project and Vesting of Land in the Government bill, 2017’.”
“This bill clearly states that where any land is acquired by the government under the Land Acquisition Act, 1894 (Act 1 of 1894), the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 (Central Act 30 of 2013) or any other law, then any dealing with the acquisition of land for the acquired land which has been already marked out and measured and a plan has been made of the same, such land as marked in such plan shall be deemed for compensation under the “The Goa Compensation to the Project and Vesting of Land in the Government bill, 2017” which has come into force on the 1st day of December, 2012.”
Putting forth this position, the Goencho Ekvott has demanded that the deputy collector immediately cancel the acquisition process underway for the “Londa Vasco Road Over Bridge in lieu of Level Crossing Nos. 25 Project” at Cansaulim and to take necessary actions on the violators.
The Goencho Ekvott has threatened to seek necessary legal action against persons, organisations, departments concerned for violation of rules and regulations.
