Power Minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar on Friday said that Goa would finally generate and produce 150 megawatts of power by 2027.

He was speaking at Benaulim after launching power improvement works in the constituency in the presence of Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas.

In another important announcement, the Benaulim MLA said the government has sanctioned a dedicated power line from Xeldem to Benaulim at a cost of Rs 41 crore. Once implemented, Venzy said the coastal villages need not bank on the power supply to the belt from Velim.

Speaking on the occasion, the Power Minister said the government under the leadership of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has embarked on a massive power improvement exercise across the State. He said the government is spending a whopping amount of Rs 3,500 crore to tone up the power infrastructure across the State.

Saying that successive governments had overlooked the need to generate power, Dhavalikar said Goa would finally produce around 150 megawatts of power by 2027.

In his address, the Benaulim MLA said that the upgradation of power infrastructure will give a boost to tourism along the Salcete coastal belt. He said the works launched by the Power Minister will improve the supply of power to the villages and will give big relief to the people before the onset of monsoons.

Venzy also made a plea to the Power Minister to adopt at least two villages of Benaulim Constituency as solar villages.
