Govt urged to get Dhangar community in ST list

MARGAO

South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha has urged the Goa government to immediately set in motion the work of getting the backward Dhangar community in the Scheduled Tribes list with the new Law empowering the states to draw up their own OBC list.

He also blamed the ruling BJP for the situation in the Parliament during the just-concluded session, saying the opposition was forced to resort to action in Parliament since the government was hell-bent on murdering democracy.

Addressing the media, the MP said the Goa government should not waste any time in declaring the Dhangar community in the ST list given the passage of the Bill in Parliament empowering the states to decide on the OBC communities. “The Dhagars are the socially, educationally and economically backwards communities in Goa. The benefits enjoyed by other ST communities should be extended to the Dhangars as well”, he said.

Commenting on the Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill, the MP demanded that all the illegal structures standing on private properties should be demolished. He demanded that the government should direct all the revenue quasi-judicial courts to expedite disposal of mundkarial and tenancy cases by reducing adjournments of cases.

Questioning the delay in the payment of salaries of aided teachers in the state, Sardinha demanded to know why the aided teachers do not get salaries on time a la the government teachers.

Demanding the scrapping of the three linear projects, including track doubling in the state, the MP demanded that the state government immediately write to the Centre to restrict the jurisdiction of the Mormugao Port Trust to the Port area. “If required, the state government should lead an all-party delegation to the centre to ensure that the Port Bill does not take away the powers of the state government and local bodies around the MPT”, he said.

Sardinha added: “Goa is not for sale. We do not want any authorities to encroach on the jurisdiction of the state”.

On the contamination of tap water supplied to the consumers, Sardinha hoped the revelation will open the eyes of the government to intervene and do the correction.
