Hundreds of camps held under Swayampurna Goa, says Sawant

PANAJI

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said the aim of his government’s ‘Swayampurna Goa’ programme was to reach out to the last citizen at the bottom of the grid (Antodaya) and bring them in the State’s social welfare schemes’ net.

At a live interaction with ‘Swayampurna Mitras’, comprising government officials and employees working at the grassroots in villages, including panchas and sarpanchas, Sawant said, hundreds of camps were held under the aegis of various departments including agriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry, social welfare among others, where thousands were

beneficiaries.

The programme aims to make Goa’s villages self-sufficient economically and create livelihoods across traditional occupations, Sawant said at the event organised by the department of planning and statistics to commemorate the completion of three years of the ‘Swayampurna Goa’ programme.

Sawant had come up with the ‘Swayampurna Goa’ scheme which also included the ‘sarkar tumchea dari’ (government at your door) module to reach out to a greater number of people in 2021 when the Covid-19 pandemic had hit people-administration interaction.

It was styled on the lines of the Central government’s ‘Atmnirbhar Bharat’ scheme but attracted criticism from the Opposition and critics that it was just a publicity stunt and a mode of election campaigning using the government machinery.
