A taxi caught fire and was reduced to ashes in Tivim in the wee hours of Monday.
The driver of the car Bharat Jamuni (38) sustained injuries after he initially attempted to douse the fire.
The driver was apparently on his way to pick up passengers at the Tivim railway station when the incident happened at Cansa Board, Tivim.
According to the fire officials attached to the Mapusa Fire Station, the fire apparently started in the bonnet of the vehicle and some sparks erupted on the dashboard.
“The driver initially tried to douse the flames with his hand therefore suffered some injuries on his hand and forehead,” the fire personnel informed.
He later came out of the car and informed the Mapusa fire station.
By the time the fire officials rushed to the site and doused the flames, the car was completely gutted in the fire.
The cause of the fire was yet to be established. Further investigation was underway.
