The Malar farmers in Divar are in trouble over the entry of saline water in the paddy fields, which were ready for harvesting. The farmers are now crying for help from authorities to save their
crops.
The Goan understands that due to heavy rains and the release of dam water, the Mandovi River’s water level swelled, resulting in the breach of the bundh and, thereby, water entering the paddy fields of the farmers from Malar-Divar.
Speaking exclusively to The Goan, former Malar sarpanch and current panch Prashant Harvalkar informed that it’s been two days that the bundh, governed by the Amoi Khazan and Tenants Association, has been breached, resulting in water entering the paddy fields of the farmers.
“The paddy fields were ready for harvesting and the entry of water has put the farmers in trouble. If the breach in the bundh is not repaired at the earliest then the crop will get damaged thereby incurring heavy losses for the farmers,” Harvalkar informed.
Sao Mathias Sarpanch Supriya Tari has urged the authorities concerned to initiate immediate action in the matter and repair the breach in the bundh so that the crop is saved from damage.
