Brace up for heavy rains for the next four days as India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rains across the State in coming days.
The IMD has sounded an orange alert predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of Goa from July 6 to 9.
An orange alert is issued as a warning for extremely bad weather which may cause risk to people and property.
According to the IMD, a combination of several factors is expected to enhance rainfall activity in the State.
Weather systems like a low pressure area over central parts of Madhya Pradesh, a cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal and presence of an offshore trough at mean sea level is expected to bring widespread rain along the west coast.
Similarly, strengthening of pressure gradient across the west coast and strengthening of winds in the lower levels of atmosphere along the west coast is also expected to boost the rainfall activity.
“Active monsoon conditions will continue to prevail along the west coast in coming days and Goa is very likely to experience very heavy rainfall, exceeding 115 mm, up to July 9,” the IMD official said.
The State is likely to witness intense spells of rain and winds gusting to around 40 kmph. Similarly, squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to prevail along and off Maharashtra-Goa coast for next four days.
Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea for next four days due to rough weather conditions.
Meanwhile, rains continued to batter various parts of the State with Sanguem recording highest rainfall at 220 mm in the past 24 hours.
From July 1 to 5 the State recorded a total rainfall of 1,202 mm which is 13 percent more than the rainfall recorded during the same period last year.
