Two groups of higher secondary school students were involved in a brawl at the Cujira school complex and a video of the fight went viral on social media.
The incident took place after the school ended on Monday and students were waiting for their buses to go home. A fight broke out between two groups of HSS students and the fight was so fierce that footwear and other belongings were strewn on the road after the fight.
A video of the fight went viral on social media, showing both groups punching each other.
To make matters worse, old videos of fights with other students of the same school were also circulated along with the video, further sensationalising the issue.
According to sources, this is the third incident of such a fight in the school complex in the last three years.
Last year, a fight broke out near the football ground in the Cujira complex. Two years earlier, a fight broke out between students in a higher secondary school canteen. Videos of these two fights were also shared on social media.
Parents and teachers have raised serious concern over the fight in the Cujira school complex on Monday.
“Students should act in a responsible manner. Some anti-social persons are also seen in the complex. The education department and the police should be vigilant so that such incidents do not occur in the complex,” said Vilas Satarkar, Headmaster of Hedgewar High School in the complex.
"We have told parents and teachers to be vigilant on what is happening in the school complex. There should also be an inquiry, not to punish the students but to ascertain the cause of the fight and work out measures to avoid such incidents in future,” said Satarkar.
When contacted, Agassaim police said they have limited role when minors are involved in fight.
“If we take any action, there is also a chance that students may be expelled from the higher secondary school,” said a policeman.
