Deputy Sarpanch, Josephine D’Cruz was unanimously elected as the new sarpanch of Parra on Monday.
D’Cruz was declared elected after the presiding officer received only one nomination for the post of sarpanch at the special meeting called for the election.
The election was necessitated after Parra Sarpanch Delilah Lobo resigned from her post and as a panchayat member of Parra village panchayat in January.
She later contested the assembly election and was elected as the MLA of Siolim constituency.
In the 7-member panchayat, Josephine D’Cruz is the senior most panch member having vast experience.
She was elected as the deputy sarpanch in November last year and later functioned as the acting sarpanch after Delilah’s resignation.
