With locals complaining that their works are kept pending in the Azossim-Mandur panchayat due to the continuous absence of the panchayat secretary, St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar visited the panchayat and demanded that a full-time secretary be appointed to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
During his visit to the panchayat on Monday, Borkar found that the secretary was absent and a load of files were pending.
Upon further inquiries, it was revealed that the secretary last attended the panchayat on March 8.
When contacted, MLA Borkar informed The Goan that since the past several days he has been receiving complaints from locals that their work is pending due to the absence of the panchayat secretary.
“As complaints were mounting, I personally visited the panchayat and saw that the secretary was not present. Upon inquiries, I was told that it’s been 20 days now since the last time the secretary remained present in the panchayat,” Borkar stated and added that he called the Tiswadi BDO Anil Dhumaskar to explain to him the difficulties faced by the villagers.
“I have asked the BDO to ensure that a full-time secretary is appointed at Azossim-Mandur panchayat and I am also going to write to the Director of Panchayats about the same,” Borkar added.
“I have also asked the BDO to look into the complaints that the gram sabha of the panchayat has not been held since over a year.”
