Son of influential politicians both of whom are MLAs, Daniel Lobo on Wednesday said that he was confident to emerge victorious in his ward in Parra village panchayat but refused to comment whether he would shoulder the responsibility of becoming the sarpanch of the village.
The junior Lobo also said that his agenda and vision for the ward and the village was to create an employment index at grass root level and ensure that the youth are gainfully employed.
“It is not an appropriate time to answer the question on the sarpanch. We will decide on the sarpanch only after the results are out and after taking everybody into confidence. The villagers and all the ward members will sit together and decide on who will be the sarpanch of the village,” Lobo said.
He said the people of the village requested him to go ahead and contest the election and was therefore confident that the villagers would elect him as their representative.
“I am confident but at the same time not overconfident. I have left it up to the people. I have given them my vision for the ward and the Parra village and I am sure they will accept me,” he said.
Son of former minister and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo and Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo, Daniel, who is contesting from ward 2, said he was not overawed because of his influential parents.
“There is no pressure on me. It is not about prestige. It’s the people of my ward who asked me to take the plunge and with their prayers I have taken the step to contest,” he said.
When asked if people will vote for him as Daniel or because of his family name, he said, “You will come to know on August 12.”
He said the youth with good educational degrees were unable to find jobs and therefore his agenda was to find a way to get them employed.
“I want to create an employment index at the grass root level to see who all are left. Not only youth but also women and elders…How to create an opportunity for self-employment in our village,” he said.
