Mangrove Park at Patto turning to be eyesore

PANAJI

Under the Smart City project the beautification of the city of Panaji was done and various projects were constructed, some of which are being utilised well by the public while others are left unattended. Due to the pandemic, many of the projects that were constructed to attract the tourists are now left unused and unattended.

If not maintained, the public money spent on these projects will go to waste, claim locals.

Until 2019 the beautification work was carried out on a big scale in Panaji and a mangrove park was constructed at Patto Panaji behind Sanskruti Bhavan which is in a neglected state today.

Due to the pandemic, there are no visitors to this park, which was once used by students and nature enthusiasts.

The Park was constructed with a huge expenditure, using good quality and durable wood. Now, the wood has been cracked at some places and due to the rain-water seepage, it is rotting now.

The mangrove park needs inspection by experts in the field. Also, a demand to put CCTVs in the park is being pushed by the locals. If not maintained, the park will be an eyesore and the expenditure will go to waste, lament the locals.
