Appoint good officers in finance dept: Sudin

PANAJI

Claiming that the finance department was not doing its duties properly, Marcaim MLA and MGP leader Sudin Dhavalikar on Wednesday asked Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to appoint good and upright officers in the department.

Speaking in the assembly, Dhavalikar said the government is borrowing money and spending much of it on repaying loans.

"Not even 20 per cent of the money is used for infrastructure development and most of the funds are used for loans and salaries,” said Dhavalikar.

"The finance department is the backbone of the State and should have officers who will not bow down to any pressure."

Stating that the finance department was not doing its duties properly, Dhavalikar said the department should have questioned the need for a second water treatment plant at Usgao-Ganjem.

He further mentioned that departments like agriculture, printing press, police, finance, TCP and river navigation had not utilised funds.

“Only the health department has spent funds. The Covid pandemic cannot be an excuse for not using the allotted funds,” said Dhavalikar.
