Mapusa councillor blames civic body as road caves in

Loaded trucks use it to transport building material

MAPUSA

Due to the incessant rain a portion of road collapsed at Gaunsavaddo, Mapusa inconveniencing vehicular movement but the local councilor blamed the Mapusa civic body for the unfortunate incident.

A portion of the road in ward 20 caved in and gravel and stones came crashing down near a residential house situated below.

Luckily, the incident happened early on Sunday morning when the traffic flow is minimal, and fortunately no one was injured in the accident.

According to councillor Prakash Bhivshet the Mapusa Municipal Council has issued permission to a high-rise building project in the area in spite there being no six metre road access and objections raised by the locals.

“The MMC is responsible for this mess in my ward. This road has collapsed primarily because loaded trucks carrying construction material use this narrow road to transport construction material to a building project nearby. The residents from the area had opposed the project. I had also expressed my opinion against the project but the civic body issued a licence for the construction,” Bhivshet said.

He said there was no six metre road access but in spite of it permission was issued to the project.

He further said several complaints were also made against the project but the municipality paid no heed to the request of the locals.
