Mapusa roads to be hotmixed by Dec end: MLA

MAPUSA

Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza on Saturday said that works of around Rs 12.5 crores will be taken up in next three months and all roads in Mapusa will be hotmixed by December end.

He also said that the Government of India initiative of making the States open defecation free has been a successful initiative in the country.

“The government has passed works of around Rs 12.5 crore in Mapusa but we expect works of at least Rs 8 to 9 crore to be completed. I can say with pride that Mapusa will have the best roads in the entire State of Goa,” D’Souza said.

The Mapusa MLA was addressing a gathering after garlanding the bust of Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his birth anniversary.

Chairperson of Mapusa Municipal Council Shubanghi Vaigankar, Vice Chairperson Chandrashekar Benkar and other councilors were also present.

According to MMC Chairperson, Shubanghi Vaigankar one of the biggest problems faced by Mapusa was of garbage which the civic body was trying to resolve.

“We have decided to outsource garbage collection and garbage collection of at least six to seven wards has been outsourced,” Vaignkar said.

She said people of surrounding villages were dumping waste at several spots in town and thereby spoiling the name of people of Mapusa.

At another function, State Convenor of AAP, Rahul Mhambre said Mahatma Gandhi always fought to do away with the inequality and injustice among the unpriviledged class.

“AAP will take forward the values of the Mahatma. The announcements made by our party on power and jobs are to reduce inequality in the State of Goa,” Mhambre said.

The State AAP convenor was addressing the media after paying tribute to the Mahatma on his jayanthi.

Meanwhile, Congress general secretary, Agnel Fernandes stressed on practicing probity among the politicians while enjoying priviledges when in power.

“Lal Bahadur Shastri once resigned as a minister of railways when a train met with an accident during his tenure. I don’t think any present day politicians will take such a step now. We politicians should give importance to probity while discharging our duties,” Fernandes said.

General Secretary Tulio de Souza, North Goa District President Vijay Bhike, Mapusa Congress Block President, Shashank Narvekar and other leaders also spoke while paying tributes to Mahatma Gandhi in the Mapusa office.
