Prof Prabhakar Timble on Saturday said the death of the Father of the Nation had given birth to a Mahatma and values, including tolerance, compassion, harmony, justice and secularism.
Delivering a talk on “Gandhi lives forever” at a programme organised by the Goa Pradesh Congress committee at the South Goa district office on Saturday, Timble said the death of Gandhi gave birth to values and a Mahatma. “Gandhi lives forever. If Gandhi is irrelevant, why are the casinos shut down and the liquor shops closed on Gandhi Jayanti. Some persons who do not want to observe Gandhi Jayanti prefer to observe birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, without realizing that Shastri is a true and living Gandhian”, he said.
Former Minister Eduardo Faleiro said that Mahatma Gandhi is not only revered in India, but across the globe, adding that his teachings on non-violence are still relevant in the world today.
In his address, South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha said party leaders should draw inspiration from leaders such as the former Minister to bring back the Congress out of the woods by taking everyone together and ensure that the Congress returns to power at the centre and in Goa.
