Moira comunidade objects to State tourism jetty policy

MAPUSA

Expressing opposition to construction of jetties in the pristine village of Moira, the managing committee of the comunidade of Moira recently passed a resolution objecting to the State tourism jetty policy.

Moira Comunidade President Rui Da Gama said all bundhs or bandaras in the village are owned by the comunidade and the ganvkars and co-owners of the Moira comunidade were against the construction of jetties.

“The jetties will disturb fishing activities of the locals. Tourism activities will create noise pollution, drug peddling, tourist touts and agents involving human trafficking. Besides, there will be problems of garbage, traffic jams and crime, which will put the lives of people to risk and disturb our peace,” Da Gama said.

In a letter to the Director of Department of Tourism, the Moira comunidade said it strongly objected to the department's jetty policy.

The Department of Tourism had issued a public notice inviting suggestions and objections over the Tourism Jetty Policy and given a month’s time for the public to put forth their views on the policy.

October 15 is the last day to file objections and suggestions on the jetty policy.
