Deputy Speaker and Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza on Monday said work on a new water reservoir will soon be taken up in Mapusa which will resolve the long-pending problem of water in the town.

D’Souza also said many other projects were in the pipeline which will be taken up in the next few months.

“A ground level water reservoir of 2,000 cc capacity will be constructed at Dattawadi. Residents of Mapusa have been complaining of water issues for a long time. This reservoir will take care of the major water problem in town,” said D’Souza, adding that the project work will be taken up on priority.

The Mapusa MLA was speaking at an event to lay foundation stone for construction of a footpath in Ward 6 at Ganeshpuri.

Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson Shubhangi Vaigankar, Vice Chairperson Chandrashekar Benkar, local councillor Nutan Bicholkar and other councillors were also present on the occasion.

Speaking further, D’Souza said construction of the footpath was one of the important projects planned in Ganeshpuri.

“Besides this, another two projects are planned here, which will be taken up very soon. For the last three years, we were trying to work on this footpath project and today with the cooperation of the people, Ward 6 councillor Nutan Bicholkar, ex-councillor Sanjay Mishal and the MMC Chairperson Shubhangi Vaigankar we have finally started the work,” he said.

He assured the citizens of Mapusa that many more such projects will come up in town in the near future.

“We are in the process of replacing the old water pipeline in this entire colony,” he said.
