#MyMollem condemns SWR moves to acquire land despite CEC report

PANAJI

Activists of the #MyMollem stir have raised objections to the renewed notices to acquire land along the railway route  by South Western Railway (SWR) and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) despite the CEC report submitted to the Supreme Court terming the double-tracking project "unjustified".

In a press release issued on Monday, it said community and farmlands in Curchorem, Cacora, Davorlim, Velsao, Cansaulim and Arossim have been demarcated despite an earlier gazette notification last December stating that SWR will not involve the land of the farmers in Curchorem and Cacora.

The MyMollem citizen group said members of the local elected representatives and community will voice their opposition if their interests are overlooked again.

The Sarpanchas of Cansaulim and Velsao, Jose Maria Furtado and Henrique D' Mello, have expressed their dismay over the new land acquisition notice which overlooks the people who took to the streets in opposition during trying times of the pandemic to oppose the project, the press release said.

The two Panchayats among others have already resolved to stand by the people against the project, it said.

#MyMollem also said that the National Security Act (NSA) invoked a day before the Goa Revolution Day shows that governing bodies are using every tool possible to suppress the people’s movement.

“The Goa Government seems to have forgotten the power of the people yet again, this will not be forgotten. Given the pandemic situation we request the Supreme Court to intervene and implement the CEC recommendations and scrap this economically and ecologically unviable project,” the press release quotes Fr Bolmax Pereira, a local community leader of the movement as saying.
