MARGAO
Residents of Navelim, led by activist Pratima Coutinho, on Wednesday squatted on the footpath outside Margao Police Station demanding justice for the family of Filipe Pereira, who died in a road accident near the Nagmodem-Navelim underpass two months ago.
Accompanied by Filipe’s widow and minor children, Pratima warned the police that they would not leave the spot until a chargesheet was filed against the accused driver.
Pratima claimed that the accused driver, also from Navelim, had already left for London, questioning the police over the failure to attach his passport.
“It is now evident that law and order has totally collapsed in Goa. We had suspected the police of playing dirty in the case. The police returned the vehicle driven by the accused driver. And we have been told that he has gone to London,” she claimed, demanding to know why the police did not attach the passport of the accused driver as part of the investigation.
