New Borim bridge will not affect fields, no basis for objections, says Shirodkar

MARGAO

Water Resources Department (WRD) Minister Subhash Shirodkar on Sunday said there is no point in objecting to the new Borim bridge when the bridge will not affect agricultural fields.

Commenting on the strong objections lodged by the villagers of Loutolim to the new Borim bridge on ground that the bridge will destroy two lakh square meters of Khazan fields, the WRD Minister  said, “to build a bridge on stilts and on columns, you need to construction an approach road to transport the construction material. In the case of the new Borim bridge, the National highway will need an approach road to carry the construction material. Since the bridge will not be built with land filing, there is no point in objecting to the new bridge”.

Loutolim villagers had on last Sunday strongly objected to the land acquisition proposal for the construction of the new Borim bridge, contending that the project will destroy around two lakh square metres of khazan fields. In fact, the villagers had raised eyebrows to the National highway accepting alignment no seven, saying the bridge is being built to connect the Mormugao Port in order to transport coal.
