No-trust motion against Colvale deputy sarpanch

Failure to take decisive action against illegal scrapyards has resulted in tabling of a no-trust motion against Colvale Deputy Sarpanch Liberata Fernandes.

Six panchayat members including the Sarpanch of Colvale village panchayat have moved a no-confidence motion against the deputy sarpanch on Tuesday.

A notice of no-confidence has been submitted to the Block Development Officer by Sarpanch Sheetal Chodankar, Rati Varkhandkar, Supriya Kanolkar, Yogita Chodankar, Dasharath Bicholkar and Priyanka Bicholkar.

Moving the motion under Section 51 of the Goa Panchayat Raj Act, the six panchayat members said that the deputy sarpanch has not taken action against illegal scrapyards in the village.

Colvale village was recently in the news after two scrapyards went up in flames. One person died due to burn injuries in the accident.

Soon after the fire incident, the district administration issued showcause notices to at least 50 scrapyards in Colvale.
