Pernem teacher seeks anticipatory bail for harassing students

A high school teacher in Pernem has moved for anticipatory bail following a complaint accusing him of verbally abusing and slapping his students.
Police sources told The Goan that teacher Amit Mashalkar of a Dhargal High School was earlier issued warnings not to subject his students to harassment despite which he continued his act.
"The students had complained against their teacher to the Headmistress around 4-5 months back, after which he was issued a warning. Several warning letters followed thereafter. Amit repeated his act to humiliate his students, verbally abuse them and even slap them for petty reasons. The Headmistress then approached the police seeking penal action," the official said.
The victim students of Class VI and VII have devised before the police confirming the offence.
The accused has been charged under section 8 of Goa Children's Act, and sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult) of the Indian Penal Code.
