Anjuna Police have arrested Abdul Kader Khwaja, the owner of a pit bull, on charges of negligence following a tragic incident that led to the death of a seven-year-old boy in Anjuna.
Khwaja, a resident of Piqueno Peddem, Anjuna, allegedly left his pet dog unleashed at his residence, which contributed to the fatal attack on the child. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when the boy accompanied his mother to her workplace. While his mother was attending to her duties, the pit bull unexpectedly attacked the child, leading to his death.
Khwaja has been arrested under Section 106(1) of the BNS and Section 8 of the Children’s Act. While Section 106(1) is a bailable offence, Section 8 of the Children’s Act is non-bailable. The accused is currently in police custody.
In addition to the arrest, the police are considering transferring the dog to an animal rescue institute for further care. The arrest followed a complaint filed by the boy’s father, who alleged that Khwaja’s negligence in keeping the dog unleashed was responsible for the tragic incident.
An FIR has been registered, and the Anjuna Police are continuing their investigation.
