BICHOLIM
Bicholim city will be under CCTV surveillance from Saturday, as 37 CCTVs have been installed in various wards, markets and strategic places.
The work to install 37 CCTV cameras in the city has been completed and will be inaugurated on Saturday morning by Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade, former Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar and Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrankant Shetye. Bicholim Municipal Council Chairperson Kundan Falari, North Goa Collector Sneha Gitte, IAS, officials and other councillors will also be present.
Tendulkar had sanctioned the 37 cameras at a cost of around Rs 92 lakh under the MPLAD scheme in November 2023. Dr Shetye said that these modern CCTV cameras will be useful to keep a watch on various activities in the city.
Falari said such cameras were a necessity for the city to keep watch on traffic, crimes and antisocial activities. “There was a demand for these CCTV cameras for several years and now, we are satisfied that this facility will be available in the city. Traffic arrangements and the crowds will be monitored during Ganesh Chaturthi,” said Falari.
“The CCTV cameras will also help traffic police to get immediate information about traffic movements and violations.”
