PMU tasked to identify affected mining areas for welfare projects

PANAJI

The North Goa District Mineral Foundation (DMF) has directed the project management unit (PMU) to identify the directly and indirectly affected mining areas for implementation of various welfare projects.

The managing committee of the North DMF has also decided to undertake a detailed beneficiaries survey of the implemented projects to understand the impact in the mining affected areas.

During its meeting held last month, the Committee accepted  the revised Pradhan Mantri Khan Keshtra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKKY) and decided to include sectors like Housing, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry to priority sector.

As per the revised guidelines, the directly affected mining area is area falling within the radius of 15 km from mines and indirectly affected area is considered beyond 15 km and within 25 km radius of the boundary of mine.

As such, the Committee noted that 70 per cent of the funds should be spent only in the directly affected areas while the balance would be focused in indirect areas.

“The 10 per cent of total funds should be considered or deposited as the endowment funds if the annual collection is more than Rs 10 crore,” the committee noted further.

“The MC accepted the guidelines and asked the PMU to identify the directly and indirectly affected areas and present it before the Governing Council,” the minutes of the meeting stated.

As of July, the North DMF has around Rs 114 crore unutilized funds.
