In response to mounting concerns over illegal activities, particularly rampant landfilling, within Mapusa's jurisdiction, Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Nutan Bicholkar assured residents that swift action is taken upon receiving complaints.
Bicholkar outlined the procedural approach adopted by the MMC, indicating that upon notification of illegalities, the technical staff conducts on-site inspections to assess the situation thoroughly. Subsequently, comprehensive reports detailing the offences are prepared for further action.
"We take all reported illegal activities seriously and are committed to addressing them promptly," affirmed Bicholkar.
However, she underscored the necessity of adhering to established protocols in the process. "While ensuring accountability, it's imperative for us to follow due process before taking action," she added.
Regarding a recent complaint lodged by Councillor Prakash Bhivshet concerning illegal landfilling, Bicholkar assured that the matter was swiftly attended to and is currently under investigation.
Her statement comes amidst growing discontent within the community over the perceived inaction of municipal authorities in curbing unlawful activities, particularly in environmentally sensitive areas like Gaunsavaddo.
Residents and local leaders have been vocal in their demands for decisive measures to safeguard the ecological integrity of Mapusa's surroundings.
