Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has stated that the State government has approved a subsidy of Rs 3 crore, which would benefit around 2,500 dairy farmers in the State.
Sawant stated that Rs 2 crore has already been transferred to the accounts of 2,152 farmers as on Monday, while Rs 1 crore was approved for around 350 farmers on Monday, which will be credited to their accounts within the next two days.
Dairy farmers had been demanding the release of pending subsidies for the past eight months. The issue was taken up by Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye and Animal Husbandry Minister Nilesh Cabral, who urged the chief minister to look into the matter.
The Chief Minister assured that the State government is committed to providing all possible support to milk producers. He stated that the government will ensure that farmers receive their subsidies in a timely manner and that any deficiencies in the system will be addressed through discussions with farmers.
The milk producers had also demanded an increase in milk prices and prompt distribution of pending subsidies. The chief minister has assured that the government will consider these demands and work towards providing relief to farmers.
