A Goan, Richa Govekar, from Sakhali has stolen the credit to become a commercial pilot at the age of 21. Richa, daughter to Lavu and Hetal Govekar, was interested in sky, space and astronomy from her childhood and she chose to be a commercial pilot after her 12th science schooling.
Richa completed the three-year course and had to spend Rs 60 lakh on her training. The otherwise difficult vocation for girls, Richa took up the challenge and passed the oral, written and practical exams during her course.
"After my 12th Science exam from Shantadurga Vidyalaya in Bicholim, I took admission in a pilot training institute in Baramati, Maharashtra. The course usually takes two-and-a-half years’ time, but due to the covid pandemic, the period was extended by six more months. The training includes written exams and the technique of flying. There is a medical test at the end of the training period and after passing that one gets the certificate,” stated Richa.
Girls can also become pilots, and parents must encourage their children to dream big, and spend on their chosen career, adds Richa who was inspired to be a pilot after watching the film 'Neerja'. After watching the film, she had decided to work hard and fulfil her goal.
