Sattari locals asked to file claims on land rights with Dy Collector

VALPOI

With demands for land ownership rights taking centre stage following the successful public opposition to the IIT project in Melauli-Sattari, locals have now been asked to submit their claims on land ownership before the deputy collector.

Addressing a news conference, Health Minister and Valpoi MLA Vishwajit Rane assured that the BJP would take up their demands for land ownership rights.

He admitted that there had been variations in land documents, as some people in Sattari did not have any documents, while others had final documents and some have provisional documents.

He clarified that the State government could not get involved in any land fraud and deprive people of their land, as forest issues fell under the purview of the Central act and not the State act.

While appealing to locals to submit their claims on land ownership before the deputy collector, Rane said about 100 applications are pending in matters pertaining to encroachment on revenue land.

“People should not be misled regarding land ownership rights and Mhadei wildlife sanctuary. The wildlife sanctuary was notified when J F R Jacob was then governor during President’s Rule in Goa.”

“Since Assembly elections are barely one-and-half years away, some people are playing politics by raising such issues,” he added.
