After initially lagging behind in the generation of Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) IDs, Goa has achieved 73 per cent APAAR enrolment as on Monday, February 24. The initiative, part of the Centre's ‘One Nation, One Student ID’ programme, is set to provide a unique ID to each student, consolidating their academic journey.
Speaking to The Goan, Director Education Shailesh Zingade confirmed that with 2.16 lakh plus students generating their APAAR ID, the total enrolment has touched 73 per cent as on date.
Until January 28, the State’s APAAR enrolment was 63 per cent. The total targeted enrolment of the State is 2,91,112 that included 81,589 secondary and higher secondary students.
Zingade said that all 1,472 schools have initiated the student enrolment process. “We have not set any deadline to achieve 100 per cent coverage. But, more early the student does, it will benefit him or her,” the director said.
The new initiative aims to streamline academic records, track student progress and support students’ educational journeys. The APAAR ID system will enable the Education Department to track student progress and identify those who need additional support.
The department has already directed the heads of the institutions to expedite the process of APAAR ID generation of its students.
The department has already made APAAR ID mandatory to obtain the benefits of free textbooks, mid-day meals and other government benefit schemes. Also, students will have to produce the ID for the purpose of inter-school transfers and migration henceforth.
The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) had also asked schools to complete the process of enrolling the students of Class IX and Class XI for APAAR ID as primary students’ identification for school and higher education examination.
APAAR ID is a unique, lifelong 12-digit identifier designed to facilitate targeted interventions, improve school enrolments, and seamlessly manage academic records.
