On a day when Chief Minister Pramod Sawant promised to resolve the oxygen shortage issue at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, families of Covid patients admitted at Ward 142 of GMC ran from pillar to post as the oxygen supply at the ward dwindled to a mere trickle.
Ashley Delaney, who has been volunteering to help Covid patients, sent out a heart-wrenching appeal to CM on Facebook informing that the oxygen supply at Ward 142 had died down by 7pm on Tuesday.
He urged Sawant to act fast to save lives. The plea was amplified by several citizens and calls were placed to CM and Health Minister.
Delaney informed The Goan that it took the authorities almost 4 hours to restore the central line and by 11 pm, with no cylinders in sight, almost 40 patients were still without oxygen and one patient was almost crashing.
A senior resident doctor at GMC confirmed that the pressure of oxygen supply was dangerously low by this time.
It was only by 11.15 pm that 60 oxygen cylinders were made available to the patients at Ward 142.
