Water wastage was reported from Davorlim village on Friday morning after the Selaulim water pipeline carrying raw water ruptured after being damaged by a JCB machine.
Senior Public Works Department (PWD)-Water Supply officials informed that the ruptured pipeline will not affect the supply of drinking water to South Goa, saying the damaged pipeline was carrying raw water to the Verna Industrial Estate.
The pipeline ruptured after a JCB deployed by the Water Resources Department (WRD) working near the pipeline accidentally damaged it.
A resident of Davorlim, Anand Sawant questioned the absence of WRD officials at the site when the contractor had deployed the JCB for the repair work.
"The contractor is not expected to know the location of the underground pipeline. The WRD engineers ought to have been present at the site when the work was in progress,” Sawant added.
