After receiving a snub from its former ally on alliance bid, State BJP President Sadanand Tanavade on Monday said that whether BJP contests in alliance with MGP or not, the party will win the 2022 assembly election and also form the government in the State.
Tanavade also said that the saffron party was prepared to contest in all 40 constituencies on its own.
“If they (MGP) is ready to form an alliance with us then it is fine. If not, then no issues. It makes no difference. Our organization is ready and our candidates are also ready. We are ready with our plans and I can confidently say BJP will emerge victorious in 2022 assembly polls and we will also form the government,” Tanavade said, while responding to queries about plans of the oldest regional party to tie up with the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
The State BJP chief said when the saffron party decides to fight an election it gets battle-ready with plans to fight alone and win.
“We do not rely on a split of opposition votes. It will be a straight fight. We against the remaining,” he said.
He said he wouldn’t like to comment on the alliance talks as the central party leaders were engaged with like-minded people in the matter.
The ruling BJP and the MGP shared a sweet-bitter relationship in the present five-term of the legislative assembly.
The MGP was part of the BJP-led dispensation when late Manohar Parrikar cobbled up the numbers along with Goa Forward Party MLAs to form the government in 2017.
But soon after Parrikar’s death, the incumbent CM Pramod Sawant dropped MGP leader Sudin Dhavlikar from his cabinet.
Off late, with ground reports suggesting that the ruling party was losing ground in the State, the State and Central leadership expressed its desire to explore the possibility of forming an alliance with the MGP.
