MARGAO
At his Janata darbar at the Margao Municipal hall, PWD Minister Digambar Kamat had to grapple with a contentious question on “ how come fast food gaddas have become a permanent feature on the Margao Municipality acquired land opposite the Margao KTC bus stand when the gaddas ought to be moving hand carts?
The PWD Minister requested Milagres Fernandes to submit a written complaint with the Margao Municipal Council in order to understand the issue and initiate action.
Incidentally, fast food gaddas operating at the Old Margao bus stand too have become permanent for want of action from the Margao municipal Council, throwing up a question whether the civic body will initiate any action against the stationary gaddas.
Milagres along with Cyrdon Medeira later told the media that the fast food operators doing business from the stationary gaddas opposite the KTC bus stand do not hail from Fatorda and Margao and nor from Goa, but they are all outsiders.
He pointed out that as per the MMC licence conditions, the operators are mandated to take their carts to their place of residence after business hours. He, however, lamented that the gaddas have become a permanent feature at the MMC acquired land, denying parking space for the two-wheeler riders as well as space for people of Fatorda to do business. “It is surprising that no action has been forthcoming from the authorities, including the civic body when the gaddas are operating in violation of the licence conditions. The entire place has become an eyesore,” Milagres said.
Claiming the gadda operators have bought properties worth crores of rupees in their native states, besides flats in the city from the gadda business, Milagres said the MMC should allow business opportunities at the place only for Goans.
