Describing Nivrutti Shirodkar’s book ‘Bhaktigeet Sagar’ as more than a collection of traditional hymns in praise of God, Dr Vinay Madgaonkar, Assistant Professor, Shenoi Goembab School of Languages and Literature at Goa University, has said it is a beacon of wisdom that guides the human mind and society towards renewed enlightenment.
He was delivering the keynote address at the release of journalist Nivrutti Shirodkar’s book, ‘Bhaktigeet Sagar’, at the Shri Dattatraya Devasthan in Morjim.
Mandrem MLA and Goa Housing Board Chairman Jit Arolkar released the book in the presence of Dr Madgaonkar, Anjuna Sarpanch Surendra Govekar, panch member Dinesh Patil, social worker Rajan Korgaonkar, Morjim Public Shri Durga Utsav Committee President Sagar Pomburfekar, and Nivrutti Shirodkar.
Speaking further, Dr Madgaonkar said Shirodkar’s poetic journey from devotion towards social consciousness, and from ritualism towards humanity, makes a valuable contribution to Goa’s literary landscape.
He added that the collection keeps the flame of thought and reason alive within the tradition of devotion, bringing together a rich cultural heritage and modern enlightenment.
Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar praised Shirodkar’s contribution to literature, saying that the book reaffirmed his ability as an accomplished writer. Journalists and writers guide society through their words, and Shirodkar has consistently fulfilled that responsibility, he noted.
Sharing his inspiration behind the book, Shirodkar said the collection had emerged from experiences at different stages of life, his inner devotion, the warmth of maternal love, faith in various deities and the inspiration drawn from the sacred atmosphere of his village.
Social worker Rajan Korgaonkar and Sudhir Kannaik also spoke on the occasion. Earlier, the programme began with a dance performance by Mansi Shirodkar.
