Action sought against shack owners who sublet units to outsiders

P'yat told to conduct surprise checks along Varca coast.

The gram sabha of the coastal village of Varca had demanded action against shack owners who sublet the beach shacks to outsiders.

At the gram sabha chaired by deputy Sarpanch Roland Fernandes, members pointed out that beach shacks once allotted by the Tourism department are then sub-letted to people from outside the state.

In this context, the gram sabha has decided that the Panchayat should conduct surprise inspections of the beach shacks along the Varca coast.

The deputy Sarpanch Roland told the media after the meeting that the Panchayat would also avail the CCTV facility to find out if the shack owners are not found at the shacks before writing to the Tourism department.

Gram sabha members also complained of the presence of traffic personnel at the narrow road junctions in the village, causing traffic congestion. The members have told the Panchayat to write to the traffic department to ensure the presence of the traffic personnel do not contribute to traffic jams along the narrow roads.

The members also raised the issue of power fluctuations in the village. The Deputy Sarpanch informed the members that the work on improvement in the Power infrastructure will be taken up in the village I in the next two months.


Keeping Seraulim

The Seraulim gram sabha on Sunday has demanded that the government keep open the Seraulim railway crossing for the benefit of the villagers.

At the gram sabha meeting chaired by Sarpanch Seema Shanke, the members were informed of the steps initiated by the Panchayat with the PWD to repair the Seraulim underpass which was inundated by water recently.

Gram sabha members sought to know from the Sarpanch the status of the various committees set up by the Panchayat body and the number of meetings conducted by the panels.

Members also demanded to know from the Chair whether any action has been initiated against the garages operating on the Margao-Colva road, pointing out that the vehicles are found parked along the road.

The Sarpanch later told the media that the Panchayat will initiate  action against the  illegal vendors both on the Colva road as well as the fish vendors operating near the wholesale fish market.

The gram sabha of Colva Panchayat on Sunday adopted a resolution requesting the government to start pension scheme for the Panchayat members.

The meeting chaired by Sarpanch Suzie Fernandes said members demanding tenant verification of the migrants staying in the village. The Sarpanch  insisted on cooperation from the villagers to taking the tenant verification exercise to the logical conclusion, pointing out that the local villagers have leased out their premises to the tenats.

The Sarpanch later told the media that the meeting also discussed the sewerage issue, saying a meeting with the sewerage department will be held soon to sort out the pending issues.

Suzie informed that the Panchayat has moved a proposal for a KTC bus to ply from Margao to Colva, saying the proposal has been forwarded to the local MLA Venzy Viegas and the concerned department for implementation.



Ban sought on sale of 

comunidade land


The Guirdolim village panchayat on Sunday has adopted a resolution seeking a ban on the sale of local Comunidade land to outsiders.

At the gram sabha meeting chaired by Sarpanch Sonia Fernandes, the gram sabha members vehemently opposed any plan or move by the local Communidade to sell or to give any land on lease to people from outside the village.

The resolution assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of the fact that the local Communidade body had some months ago had planned to give a plot of land on lease to a person from outside the village.

Members pointed out that most of the shareholders of the local Communidade body hail from outside the village and they might no interest of the village at  heart.

Sarpanch Sonia told The Goan that the Guirdolim Panchayat will convey the resolution adopted by the gram sabhat to the Managing committee of the local Communidade body.

Meanwhile, the Guirdolim gram sabha has asked the Panchayat to send demand notices to all the commercial establishments which have not paid the mandatory trade license.

The gram sabha has further decided to get the public wells located in the village registered as per the rules in force.
