PANAJI: The body of 45-year-old Rajendra Sangar, a Zilla Parishad employee from Kolhapur, who fell into a 150-foot gorge at Amboli’s Kavlesad Point yesterday while taking a photo, was recovered today after an intense rescue operation involving the NDRF, Sawantwadi police, local rescue teams, and villagers.
According to officials, Sangar had travelled to Amboli with friends and was last seen near the popular Kavlesad Point around 4:30 pm. Preliminary police reports suggest he may have slipped and fallen into the gorge while trying to retrieve a handkerchief that had fallen beyond the safety railing.
Search operations were delayed due to poor visibility and the lack of mobile network coverage in the area. The rescue team was finally able to trace and retrieve the body around noon today.
The body was later shifted to the Amboli Primary Health Centre for post-mortem examination.
