Congress ticket aspirants kept their fingers crossed as the Congress screening Committee headed by Dr Rajani Patil on Friday had a virtual meeting to discuss and shortlist the final list of candidates for the ensuing Goa Assembly polls.
The names of the shortlisted candidates will now be sent to the Central Election Committee (CEC) headed by Congress President Sonia Gandhi, which will take the final call on the candidates. The CEC, sources said, may meet in a day or two to finalise the candidates, even as local party leaders exuded confidence that the final list of candidates should be in public domain on Sunday or Monday.
Sources in the Congress informed that the Congress Screening Committee headed by Dr Rajani Patil held deliberations on the candidates before the names are forwarded to the CEC for final nod.
Sources said the six-member panel comprised of Goa desk in-charge, Dinesh Gundu Rao, GPCC chief Girish Chodankar and Opposition leader Digambar Kamat, besides two leaders from Karnataka and Kerala.
