The North Goa Planning and Development Authority (NGPDA) has re-constituted the task force for preparing and implementing the town planning scheme for Downtown Mapusa.
The seven-member committee headed by Deputy Speaker and Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza will coordinate with stakeholders, property owners and tenants whose land is earmarked for the preparation of the scheme in the ODP of Mapusa 2021. The members have to, however, restrain themselves from making any assurances or promises to the stakeholders, without the government's authorization.
The committee will deal with the implementation of Phase I downtown Mapusa project under which nearly 12 lakh sq mts land will be developed. The Downtown Mapusa project was to have a market, parking facility, Ravindra Bhavan, a warehouse, an interstate bus stand, community hall and joggers’ park. The committee has to also prepare and implement the phase I of the town planning scheme.
The committee has to co-ordinate and build a bridge between the government and the shareholders to explain the benefits of the scheme.
“The task force members shall have to make prudent efforts to build the confidence of the stakeholders with all the letters of willingness for the development of the town planning scheme and the job has to be accomplished within the period of six months as the target set by the chief minister,” said the notification issued by the NGPDA member secretary.
According to the notification, the task force will have meetings with consultants at least twice a month to speed up the design layout within the next six months. The committee has to also brief the Chief Minister and Urban Development Minister about the project from time to time.
