The murder of a construction worker from Odisha at Raia on Sunday has been resolved with the arrest of the two accused persons while they were attempting to flee the state.
While the police nabbed one of the accused from the Margao railway station, the second accused was apprehended at Bambolim while he was on the way to Panaji.
Deceased Khageswar Sabar, aged 38 years, a native of Goudachendia, Kalahandi, Junagarh, Odisha, was killed in a brawl between him and the duo over a petty matter.
The preliminary investigation conducted by Maina-Curtorim Police Station in-charge, PI Arun Desai, revealed that the deceased was residing along with his two associates, namely Sashibant s/o Bibhisan Majhi, aged 43 years, and Rabi Majhi s/o Gopinath Majhi, aged 28 years — both natives of Goudachendi, Junagarh, Kalahandi, Odisha. The duo fled from the spot and went into hiding after committing the crime.
What helped the Maina-Curtorim police in the investigation were the tenant verification forms. After verifying the tenant forms of the absconding suspects and obtaining their mobile phone numbers, the police kept the duo under surveillance with the help of the Call Monitoring Cell, South Goa.
PI Arun informed that the police also received inputs from local informants that accused Sashibant Majhi had headed to the Margao railway station.
