As Goa is set to celebrate Diwali, post-monsoon showers are likely to play a spoilsport with rainfall expected on November 1.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa declared a yellow alert from October 30 to November 1. Unexpected rains had already partially damaged several Narkasur effigies across Goa, before it were burnt at dawn, with groups involved in its making trying to protect from the rains and gusty winds.

“The upper air cyclonic circulation over Southwest Arabian Sea extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level persists. Another upper air cyclonic circulation lies over the southwest Bay of Bengal off south Andhra Pradesh coast between 1.5 & 3.1 km above mean sea level,” said the IMD Goa citing the reason for post-monsoon showers.

The October month recorded 296mm rainfall as against the normal 163.4 mm. The seasonal rainfall ended last month.
