It’s almost 28 years now since the long political innings of former Union Minister and South Goa MP Eduardo Faleiro had ended in the 1996 Lok Sabha election.
A hearse van funded under the MPLAD scheme of the former South Goa MP is still lying in an abandoned state at the old South Goa Collectorate till date.
That the abandoned hearse van was parked at the Old Collectorate came to light during GOACAN’s Vigilance Awareness Week (VAW) in Margao to highlight the negligence by Government agencies.
As part of its VAW special activity "Spot the Negligence" "Identify the Official" and "Pursue the Remedy" GOACAN has examined the information collected of the Old Collectorate Building at Margao and the impact of the neglect by the supervisory officials.
Besides the abandoned hearse van, the team of GOACAN volunteers also came across power department equipment and waste and thick vegetation on the steps near the old Collectorate building.
GOACAN Coordinator Roland Martins informed that the NGO has decided to write to the South Goa District Collector, Chief Electrical Engineer Panaji, Additional Director of Transport (South) and Municipal Engineer MMC Margao for action in these matters.
