Taxi rides in Goa will cost more with the State Transport Authority approving a new distance-based fare structure for yellow-black and tourist taxis, replacing rates in force since August 2021.
The revised fares, notified on September 25, cover ordinary motor cabs, tourist taxis, maxi cabs and premium contract-carriage vehicles.
For yellow-black taxis, the minimum fare for the first three km is Rs 300 for vehicles up to 1,499cc. The 3.1 km to 8 km slab will cost Rs 430, followed by Rs 26 for every additional km.
For 1,500cc to 2,499cc SUVs, the fare is Rs 400 for the first three km, Rs 560 for 3.1 km to 8 km and Rs 32 per additional km. Premium SUVs and MPVs, including the Innova Crysta, Tucson and Tiguan, will cost Rs 500 for the first three km, Rs 660 for the next slab and Rs 32 per additional km.
Yellow-black taxis will attract a 35% night surcharge between 11 pm and 5 am. A 50% surcharge will apply to one-way journeys outside municipal limits. Waiting charges are Rs 50 an hour, or Rs 4 for every 10 minutes.
For tourist taxis, fares vary by engine capacity and vehicle type. Cabs in the 998cc to 1,199cc category will charge Rs 300 for the first three km, Rs 445 for 3.1 km to 8 km and Rs 29 per subsequent km.
For 1,200cc to 1,499cc hatchbacks, the corresponding fares are Rs 300, Rs 480 and Rs 36, while sedans will charge Rs 300, Rs 515 and Rs 43.
Regular SUVs in the 1,500cc to 2,499cc category will charge Rs 400, Rs 645 and Rs 49 across the three slabs. Premium SUVs and MPVs will charge Rs 500, Rs 743 and Rs 49.
At the top end, premium tourist taxis of 2,500cc and above will charge Rs 1,000 for the first three km, Rs 1,745 for 3.1 km to 8 km and Rs 149 for every additional km. The category includes vehicles such as Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Jaguar and Land Rover.
The tourist-taxi rates apply to self-employed operators attached to beach and star hotels, with the three slabs applicable to round trips.
Tourist taxis will also attract a 35% night surcharge between 11 pm and 5 am, along with a night charge of Rs 100 per hour.
