Damu cites rise in vote share, outlines ideological focus
PANAJI
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Goa President Damu Naik on Tuesday said the party’s vote share for the Zilla Panchayat elections rose from 39.93 per cent to about 41 per cent.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters in Panaji on Wednesday, Naik said the BJP remained focused on issues linked to the country’s culture, spirituality and long-term development.
“The increase in vote share shows that while discussions about specific seats continue, our overall support remains strong, and we remain focused on the country’s culture, spirituality, and future development,” he said.
He said the party continues to honour national icons such as Deendayal Upadhyaya and Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, stressing that its politics was rooted in values rather than family legacies.
Drawing a parallel with rebuilding an ancestral home, Naik said commemorative initiatives such as naming landmarks and strengthening history education were aimed at keeping the sacrifices of past leaders and martyrs visible, while the country moved forward with development.
The BJP has meanwhile announced a series of programs beginning with the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on December 25. Naik said the day held deep significance for party workers and was being observed as Good Governance Day (Sushasan Divas), as declared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“BJP would, over the next eight days, formally request the government to name a new ground or landmark after Vajpayee, similar to tributes such as the Manohar Parrikar Setu. As we approach his 100th birth anniversary, we will organise “Atalji Smruti Sammelans” across all constituencies for people from all walks of life,” the BJP President added.
Naik also said December 26 would be observed as Veer Baal Diwas to honour the martyrdom of Sahibzade Zorawar Singh and Sahibzade Fateh Singh, the sons of Guru Gobind Singh, who were killed for refusing to abandon their faith.
