The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday announced it will launch a Statewide campaign styled “Mhargai Mukti Yatra”, aimed at highlighting rising inflation and explaining its six poll guarantees to Goans.
The yatra will begin on November 26, Constitution Day, and conclude on December 19, Goa Liberation Day.
The announcement was made in the presence of AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, Goa unit president Valmiki Naik, former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, Benaulim MLA Capt Venzy Viegas and other senior leaders.
Addressing the media, Valmiki Naik said the yatra would have two key objectives: first, party leaders would travel across Goa to hear out people’s concerns, expectations and grievances; and second, they would directly engage with people to explain AAP’s six “Aamchi Goyak Guarantees” and how these promises could help ease the burden of inflation and rising living costs.
Kejriwal said increasing prices had made life difficult for families across the State and said AAP leaders would interact with people in villages and towns to understand their problems and discuss practical solutions.
Kejriwal listed the six guarantees -- scrapping of TCP Amendment 39(A), free electricity with uninterrupted supply, Rs 10 lakh health insurance for every family, Rs3,000 monthly assistance for women, free bus travel for women, and world-class playgrounds with modern facilities in villages.
“These guarantees are designed to reduce the financial pressure on households and improve people’s quality of life,” Kejriwal said.
Former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, who is in-charge of the party affairs in Goa, said the campaign was not merely about raising issues but working to bring meaningful change to people’s lives.
Atishi said the larger objective was to prevent the BJP from returning to power in Goa and to build a people’s movement against inflation.
Valmiki claimed that despite Goa being among the country’s highest per-capita income States, many households continue to struggle with daily and monthly expenses.
High costs of electricity, water, healthcare and education were straining family budgets and savings, even as the educated youngsters in the family faced hardships in getting jobs.
He also accused the BJP government of favouring builders and wealthy interests at the expense of Goa’s land, environment and residents.
“Goa now needs freedom from inflation, the politics of defections and the BJP,” Naik said.
