State BJP president Damu Naik on Wednesday took strong exception to a statement made by party Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral, saying that Cabral might have made the statement directed at the party out of political insecurity.

Saying that the party has made Cabral big in politics and that he should refrain from making statements at the party due to political insecurity, he said a report containing Cabral’s statement has been sent to the party leadership in Delhi for appropriate decision.

Damu told the media that Cabral’s statement over the party ticket to contest the upcoming Assembly election does not befit a person who is a member of the BJP Core committee and one who has become the MLA thrice on the BJP banner.

“May be Cabral has made certain statement on the ticket because of political insecurity. But, I want to make clear that the nothing is permanent in politics. He was in the Congress in 2011 and was given entry into the party due to the prevailing situation then. At that time, there were many ticket aspirants in the BJP and they had to make way for Cabral for the ticket. He won the 2012 election on the BJP ticket and retained the seat in 2017 and in 2022”, he said.

He added: “When Cabral joined the party in 2011, he was not part of the party’s frontal organisation. But, still the party nominated him for the ticket in Curchorem despite several aspirants in the fray. It’s not that  the Lotus had bloomed in Curchorem only after Cabral entered the party. The BJP had twice won the seat when Ramrao Desai was the MLA”.

Saying the three-time MLA should refrain from indulging in loose talk against the party, Damu said that Cabral should know that he is the BJP core committee member and one who is drafted by the party for assignments.
