A faction of the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) on Thursday lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime Police Station against its own and only legislator, Viresh Borkar, accusing him of unauthorised takeover of the party’s digital platforms.
The complaint, filed by treasurer Ajay Kholkar and other members, alleged that Borkar had seized control of the party’s official Facebook page, email account and YouTube channel without authority.
The complainants said designated office bearers had been blocked from administering the platforms and demanded a detailed inquiry and restoration of access to authorised representatives.
The move deepens the internal crisis in the beleaguered party, which has been grappling with infighting for almost two months even scalping its founder Manoj Parab who quit as president earlier this year.
Parab, who built the party’s grassroots base, stepped down after a mutiny within the ranks, leaving the organisation fractured. His exit has triggered a leadership vacuum and intensified factionalism.
Now, the complaint against Borkar marks a new flashpoint. The MLA, who represents the St Andre constituency, has faced criticism from within for alleged attempts to take leadership control over party structures. The faction’s decision to approach cyber police has now lent seriousness to the dispute.
The RGP, had been emerging as a vocal regional force since the 2022 Assembly elections but this year has struggled to maintain cohesion and the internal dissent has dented its credibility, with leaders trading charges and accusing each other of betrayal. The party’s digital assets, crucial for outreach and mobilisation, have now become the latest battleground.
Observers said the crisis reflects the party’s inability to manage its rapid rise and the pressures of sustaining a new political outfit. With Parab gone and Borkar isolated, the RGP risks further fragmentation, the said, adding that Thursday police complaint could also set a precedent for how political parties handle disputes over digital control, an increasingly vital arena in modern politics.
