Konkani bodies pay tribute to Kamat

The All India Konkani Parishad and Konkani Bhasha Mandal have paid tribute to Anand Kamat, who made invaluable contributions to the Konkani movement in Kerala.

He passed away on July 19 following a heart attack. He served as the working president of the All India Konkani Sahitya Sammelan (Literary Conference) held in Kochi, Kerala, last November. The son of the renowned Konkani poet from Kerala, P G Kamat, Anand Kamat was the president of the P G Kamat Foundation.

KBM president Serafino Cota said Kamat was constantly striving to ensure the publication of Konkani books in Kerala. “He worked passionately for the promotion and propagation of Konkani. An always smiling and active worker, Kamat was at the forefront of promoting the Konkani language in Kerala,” he said.

The All India Konkani Parishad and Konkani Bhasha Mandal stated in a joint press release that his contribution to bringing together the Konkani people of Kerala during the Konkani Sammelan was immense.
