PONDA: Hanumant Parab of Govansh Raksha Abhiyan Goa on Tuesday stated that his organisation will fight for a legislation to demand complete ban on cow slaughter in Goa.

He was speaking at the All India Hindu Convention at Ramnathi-Ponda, which will conclude on Wednesday.

“The cow protectors are making efforts to close the slaughter house in Goa and stop everyday import of 30 to 40 tonnes of beef from Karnataka to Goa,” said Parab.

Parab further said despite the provisions in the State budget for ‘Goshalas’, not a single rupee has been spent for the purpose. “On the contrary, the Goa government is spending Rs 13 crore for renovation of slaughter house,” he added.

“It is evident that the government is appeasing the minorities and cow slaughterers. Our fight will continue till an act to ban cow slaughter in Goa is legislated,” said Parab.

Gavyasiddhacharya Niranjan Kumar Verma, founder of Maharshi Vangbhat Goshala-Tamil Nadu, said 68 years ago, there were 32 crore cows in Bharat that had a population of 34 crore. “Now, the population of India is 125 crore, while the number of cows has reduced to 3 crore,” he said.

According to Verma, after Independence, if India had implemented some programme to protect and nourish of cows, the number of cows today would have been 3,808 crore.

Dr Dilip Kumar Nathani of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha emphasised the need to give Sanskrut the status of the national language of India. He said in the ancient times, only Sanskrut was the language of the entire world.
